Why do it?

Why this website?  Well one of the main reasons for The Near Distance is to inform.  I understand that there is a great amount of news everywhere, and this site is an attempt to simplify it just a little.  I have become a headline scanner more than a story readers just because I don't have time to read lots of information.  I have personally found that reading feed headlines at least gives me  basic knowledge of what is happening in the world.  Of course there are always stories I want to actually read which is the beauty of news feeds-you the reader choose to read the full story.  I hope that those of you who view this website regularly will find the content useful and informational.  I have organized the content into several sections including business, economy, world, middle east, politics, and my favorite feeds.

Another benefit that I find from scanning news feeds is that it becomes very easy to put together the trends that are taking place in the world headlines.  When I just read a story here or there I miss the fact that it may be a part of a trend much bigger than that one story.  Thus, I also hope that this website will help visitors become aware of the trends in the news that are taking place.

Lastly, I believe that there is so much going on in our world that it begs a bigger question.  What is really going on?  Is there something bigger happening behind all the news headlines and the stories that seem to overwhelm us every day.  If you have had these thoughts, I hope this site can be an encouragement to you.  I do believe in something bigger behind the news, something that is far more hopeful than anything I see today.  It is by faith that I am able to look at and ponder the news, but furthermore, understand why it is happening.  Keep visiting this site and I think you'll pick up on this as well.
